Indian women have failed to continue their brilliant show at the Uber Cup as Japan has thrashed India by 4-1 in the second round of the Uber Cup (Asia Zone) badminton tournament at the Nakornratchasima in Thailand on Tuesday.
Saina Nehwal was the only Indian woman to win her match while all others lost their matches. Saina, the World no. 7, was declared winner in the match against Goto when Goto decided to withdraw from the match due to injury. Saina was leading the match 1-0 at that moment.
Indian women failed to take benefit of early advantage provided by Saina as they lost all next four matches. Indian pair of Aparna Balan and Shruti Kurian went down to Mami Naito and Shizuka Matsuo of Japan 18-21 21-17 14-21 in the second match.
Indian national champion Trupti Murgunde also lost her match against Sayaka Sato 16-21 19-21. Miyuki Maeda and Satoko Suetsuna of Japan defeated Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa 21-13, 13-21, 21-12 in the doubles. Eriko Hirose thrashed India's Gayatri Vartak 21-12, 21-7 in the fifth match as Japan won the match easily by 4-1.
